PROJECT PROPOSAL:
Our project explores how university students go about meeting new people and forming meaningful and lasting relationships, whether they be platonic or romantic, during their time studying. Specifically, our live reports will aim to document some of the ways in which these individuals have opportunity to make these connections, namely events ran by the Royal Holloway societies. To gain valuable and varied perspectives, our group will be splitting into three sub-groups to attend three society-led events. These events are the LGBTQ+ Mixer evening, Comics Collaborative event, and a Womens Football event. By taking a hands-on approach and personally interacting with the people attending these events, we can witness and offer an authentic representation of the art of socialising at university and how beneficial it is. We have chosen this topic as it is relatable to all of us as students, who have successfully formed friendships through a variety of means at university. Furthermore, studies make it clear that ‘friendship and social connection to other students was an important issue for many’ (Read, Burke, and Crozier, 2018). Our livestreams will be shot with Instagram to adhere with the social media element of this task then later edited and exported with Premiere Pro. This will then all be coded via Glitch into a website, which will have a retro internet aesthetic.
